Fucking hell. I was expecting seven replies. There are 104. Has anyone read all of them and is there actually any interesting/genuine info provided?

What I'm saying is: can someone read through this shit then give me an answer in three succinct sentences.

Judo is something you can pick up at any age, a little basic knowledge of technique and you will be surprised at the advantage you gain over the average bloke.

I will never forget playing vets football and we had a bloke playing up front, nice chap, well spoken, athletic but not a great player, a bit of a geek. What we didn't know that he was a junior national champion.
We played a cup game in Addington and they had complete lunatic whose party trick was smacking someone in the head when a corner came in, our man took him to the floor and half strangled him. He stared in his face and said very calmly, I am going to let you get back up but if you try and hit me I will do this again. Needless to say the fella went very quiet .

Interesting mate, cheers for your advice. My main problem these days is making time for things like MA on a regular basis.

Re: Martial arts... best one??

I was out for a decade as well, had a head injury and other aspects of my life but then got back in to it.

What i noticed was I didn't have that high octane approach to martial arts any more, I just couldn't. Boxing, Judo, Karate, Kick boxing all those previous martial arts were now beyond me. Went to a local town show and saw a group doing a seminar and really felt the urge to talk to them about their school. Started with Tai Chi and got back to fitness and a determination as well as a more relaxed approach than in my younger years.

Now I do Kung Fu incorporating Wing Chun, Ba Gua, Hsing - I and other styles. My martial arts is so much better than before, I fight only when I need to and my technique has improved so much. The inner martial arts make fighting just a natural reaction rather than an adrenaline forced retort to aggression.

I haven't seen many people (if at all) mention Muay Thai. Is this any good and how does it compare to the rest ?

I keep thinking about getting back into something but because I hadn't training in any MA for about a decade I kept getting the hump with myself for forgetting so much. maybe you are right though, perhaps going for something completely different would be better!

Give Tai Chi a go, it is a martial art and is suitable enough to improve your well being. Then move to Wing Chun and gradually progress. I had the same problem with injuries but got back in via Tai Chi and back to full time Kung Fu.

Anyone seen BK Frantzis or read his books? Gives a good account of his journey from external to internal martial arts.

I did krav maga for a few years.

As people have said on here its not so easy to do as a sport because playing by the rules defeats the purpose of it. However it can be and it is graded etc.

It was created by the Israeli army (a Romanian immigrant) 70 years ago as a quick way to train people, with no previous training or weapons, to protect themselves and their families.

Its great for keep fit and to answer Nurse's question earlier, can be practised equally by both sexes. I've seen 5 foot nothing girls overcome bulky blokes.

It has been adopted by many police forces (including seveal US states), as their hand to hand combat method. This is actually a bit scary as I wouldn't fancy being on the end of it if I got a bit lairy.

I heard Bukkake actually originated in Turkey as that's the noise the chickens make when they see Turan approaching

Back in teh day, I new a nice fella who used to work on the door at the Henry Cooper pub, he was also a decent heavyweight boxer. I was at a party when told that he was turning up with his mates as there was a black belt 3rd Dan with his mates, who he had some grievance?

It was a tad worrying as it was just a small flat packed with people partying and I could see things getting thrown around including me?

Fortunately my concerns were unfounded as when he arrived he went straight over to the 3rd Dan and knocked him out with one punch.
